Over the last two weeks we’ve been traveling the country delivering training to LEO Teams from right across Ireland. If you don’t know what a LEO is, here’s a quick intro. LEOs are Local Enterprise Offices. If you are in business or thinking of starting a business, they should be your first port of call. They provide a one-stop shop of enterprise supports, mentoring, training and (in some cases) grant aid. LEOs are based in every county in Ireland and are part of the Local Authority Network and Enterprise Ireland. We’ve had the pleasure of working with the LEOs since their inception 4 years ago (and prior to that when they were County Enterprise Boards). They offer a brilliant range of supports to SMEs and really are a great asset to anyone in business.
So anyhow, back to our training delivery to the LEOs. We were engaged by Enterprise Ireland to deliver this training aimed at ensuring that LEO staff feel confident and skilled in planning and managing events of all types. We designed and delivered training days that were designed to impart important knowledge and help LEO staff to learn from each other. We packed the day full of practical examples that were relevant to their learning needs. We provided useful templates and training notes to take back to their respective offices and start to implement.
Essentially, successful events are all about planning. Focus, structure and planning are the cornerstones of good event planning and these are crucial to success. We started off by talking about the importance of defining your event objectives and the rationale for setting a budget. From there we moved into the 10 steps of Event Planning:
- Develop an event plan
- Develop relationships with Sponsors and Partners
- Conduct venue selection process
- Complete supplier selection process
- Select a team
- Develop the running order
- Select and manage MC / Speakers
- Registration Planning and Management
- Event Design
- Post Event Learning and Evaluation
The day-long training course also include Event Management and Event Marketing, both of which are critically important to the success of an event. It was a pleasure for the team at WhiteLight Consulting to impart this learning to the LEO teams and we look forward to attending many more superb LEO events in the year ahead!
